Alpen Maison Size Guide
Find the right fit for your favorite German dirndl dresses, evening gowns, velvet dresses, and jackets and coats. Different designs may fit differently, so always check the measurements and size information on the individual product listing first.
How to Measure Yourself
Use a soft measuring tape, stand naturally, and measure over lightweight fitted clothing. Keep the tape level and comfortably snug. Ask someone to help with measurements across your back. Record all results in centimeters or inches and use the same unit throughout.
Bust
Measure around the fullest part of your bust, with the tape level across your back. Keep your arms relaxed and breathe normally.
Underbust
Measure directly beneath your bust, around the ribcage. This can be especially helpful when checking the fit of a traditional dirndl bodice.
Natural Waist
Wrap the tape around your natural waist, usually the narrowest part of the torso above the belly button. Do not pull the tape tight.
Hips
Measure around the fullest part of your hips and seat while standing with your feet together.
Shoulders and Sleeve Length
For jackets or long-sleeved dresses, measure shoulder width across the back and sleeve length from the shoulder point to your desired cuff with your arm slightly bent.
Skirt Length
Measure downward from your natural waist to the desired hem. This is particularly important when selecting a dirndl dress. If a listing specifies a skirt length, check whether the measurement is from the waist to the hem rather than the total dress length.
Full Dress Length
If a product asks for shoulder-to-hem length, start at the indicated shoulder point and measure down to the preferred hem position. When buying a floor-length evening gown, consider your intended footwear.
How to Choose Your Size
- Open the product you would like to purchase.
- Find its size chart, size options, and product measurements.
- Compare your bust, waist, hip, and any relevant length measurements with that specific product chart.
- If your measurements fall between sizes, or different measurements point to different sizes, contact us before ordering for guidance.
Important: Standard US, UK, EU, and numeric size labels are not always directly interchangeable across styles. Do not rely only on your usual clothing size. The chart included with the individual product should take priority over general conversion charts.
Dirndl Dress Sizing
A traditional Bavarian dirndl generally has a more fitted bodice and a fuller skirt. Pay particular attention to your bust and natural waist measurements, and check the listed skirt length. Any included pieces, such as aprons or blouses, are specified on each product page. If you are unsure whether a dirndl will suit your measurements, contact us with your product link and sizes.
Gowns and Velvet Dresses
When shopping for formal eveningwear or velvet dresses, check the bust, waist, hips, dress length, neckline, and sleeve details listed for the specific style. For longer dresses, measure with your intended heel height in mind.
Jackets and Outerwear
For coats and jackets, consider bust and shoulder measurements as well as whether you plan to wear a sweater or other layer beneath the garment. Review the product description for its intended fit and structure.
